Rafee Al-Mansur, LMFT

Choosing the right therapist is a big decision so I'm honored that you're considering working with me. Perhaps my biggest strength in how I conduct my sessions is a strong and sincere curiosity to understand the lived experience of my clients. Of all my sessions, never have I felt that the feelings, thoughts, and behaviors of my clients weren't understandable. I believe that all of our reactions and responses, though not always the most appropriate, are always understandable. And that is probably the most valuable asset that I offer to my clients: the opportunity to be understood. And once mutual understanding is there, then with your insights and my knowledge of family systems and human psychology, we can figure out the best ways to move forward.

Professional Background

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and I received my Masters in Couple and Family Therapy from the University of Maryland and Bachelors in Sociology from Johns Hopkins University. Since I first began seeing clients in 2015, I have worked with individuals, couples, and families across a wide variety of issues. Although I specialize in relationships, I provide individual therapy as well.

I also conducted research on the mate selection and courtship patterns of Muslims living in the United States. I recently conducted a survey through the popular Muslim dating app, Muzmatch, to investigate changing dynamics in how Muslims find romantic partners.

I also work part-time as a supervisor and group facilitator for the Together Program, a six-week couples’ workshop on healthy communication and stress management relating to financial issues. This workshop is provided across the DMV and is completely free of charge. I highly recommend this workshop to all couples. More information can be found at www.TogetherProgram.org

As of present, I also serve as the Chair of the Couples and Intimate Relationships Topical Interest Network (CIRTIN) for the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). More information can be found at www.aamft.org/couples
